Douglas Sacha The deadline to register for an Economic Impact Payment (EIP) is Nov. 21, and the IRS declared Tuesday “National EIP Registration Day” in an effort to get the word out. Unlike tax filers, non-filers didn’t automatically get their payments in April, and earlier this fall, the IRS identified almost 9 million people who may qualify but have yet to register for them. People who do not usually file taxes should register with the non-filers tool on the IRS website. The tool is designed for people who make less than $12,200 a year, or married couples that make under $24,400, including people experiencing homelessness. The payments are typically $1,200 for an individual and $2,400 for a married couple, plus $500 for each dependent child. The one-time payments were a provision of the CARES Act, passed in March to help families combat the hardships of the COVID-19 recession. “Registration is quick and easy, and we urge everyone to share this information to reach as many people before time runs out on Nov. 21,” IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said in a press release.
